Playing Career

Justin was born in Calgary Alberta Canada on February 17th 1988. He grew up playing minor hockey in Calgary. At the age of 16 Justin attended The Edge School to play High School AAA Midget Hockey. Justin was Captain of the team both years he played there. He graduated in 2006 and moved on to play Junior Hockey.  He played 4 seasons with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL in his home province of Alberta (2006-2009). He was  named Captain of the team and as a 21 year old year was awarded the teams Top Defenceman, MVP, and the On and Off ice Leadership awards. Justin was the franchise leader in points for 2 years with 124 points in 170 games. Justin signed a full scholarship with the University of Alaska Fairbanks of the CCHA in the NCAA in 2009. In Justin’s Freshman season (first year) he had the honour of playing in the NCAA national tournament. It was their universities first time qualifying for the tournament. Mid way through his sophomore (second) year he suffered a near career ending ankle injury. He managed to make a slow recovery and played for the Mount Royal university cougars in the 2011-2012 season. Justin was named to the ACAC men’s All Conference team and finished with 13 points in 23 games. He went on to play Senior AAA in Alberta for former NHL player and coach Brian Sutter in 2013.

Coaching Career

Justin also has a lot of coaching experience. He was the Lead Instructor for 2 years at the Black Elk Hockey School in 2008 and 2009 and has been coaching in the summers in Canada for over 8 years at various hockey schools. Justin coached at several Edge School and Okotoks Oilers camps and even took on several 1 on 1 off season clients. He has been in New Zealand since 2013 and has been working for Camorra Hockey since May 2014. Recently Justin was selected to represent New Zealand at the Youth Olympics in the Individual Men’s Skills Competition as a coach working with Ollie Curtis, New Zealand’s qualified athlete. In 2015 he was named West Auckland Admirals Assistant coach and he will retain that position in 2016. 2015 also saw him named Assistant Coach of the New Zealand U16 National Team. Though a young coach Justin has a very bright hockey mind and his passion is obvious from the moment you meet him.
